Volvo Community Manager

The bot that runs the Volvo enthusiast community.

One bot to keep a whole Volvo Discord alive — rewarding the regulars, settling who's trustworthy, answering wrench questions, running the monthly photo contest, and piping in every fresh Volvo headline. It's part scorekeeper, part mechanic, part newsroom, part concierge.

What it does

A whole community team, in one bot

Every system below runs on its own — together they turn a Discord server into a living Volvo clubhouse.

Activity ranks

Earn a point per word and half per reaction — the bot auto-grants all 20 Activity ranks as members climb. Real, earned status.

Reputation & feedback

Members give, approve and back up feedback with evidence, climbing 5-star reputation tiers. Trust you can see.

An AI Volvo mechanic

Type /askvolvo or just say “hej volvo bot” in chat — a conversational AI wrench that actually knows Volvos.

Monthly photo contest

Members submit their ride, vote with reactions, and watch a live, pinned leaderboard crown the month's best.

Volvo news, aggregated

SwedeSpeed, FCP Euro, r/Volvo, VolvoSweden and Turbobricks — fresh threads piped straight into their own channels.

Self-assign roles

Pick your Volvo series, your region and partner brands with a click — no mod required.

A community garage

Members log their cars into a catalog, and anyone can search the whole community's garage.

Live GitHub board

Search Volvo-related repos with /volvo_repos and keep an auto-updating repo board pinned.

Junkyard finds

Optional scrapers sweep Pick-n-Pull and NVPAP and post Volvos spotted in junkyards — parts-hunter heaven.

A warm welcome

Every new member gets greeted and pointed at roles and the garage, so nobody lands and lurks.

Built to last

A ground-up v2.0 rewrite

The original bot was loved but fragile — it kept running out of memory. So it was rebuilt from scratch, properly.

From a leaky JavaScript bot to a rock-solid service

Every community feature was preserved, and the parts that crashed the old bot were re-engineered for good.

  • Rebuilt in TypeScript on a proper PostgreSQL database, fully containerised with Docker.
  • The memory leak that crashed the old bot is gone — scrapers always clean up after themselves.
  • Activity points update instantly per message instead of re-counting the whole table every 10 seconds.
  • Photo-contest votes are now bullet-proof — every reaction counts, even on old messages.

The clubhouse keeper.

Years of community features, rebuilt to run forever — quietly keeping a Volvo community engaged, day in and day out.
